Most of us are prepared to deal with thinning hair when we get older, but what we’re not prepared for is coping with hair loss and related problems in our younger years. For women, especially, the idea of losing their hair can be quite an emotionally painful one; after all, long, thick and luscious locks are widely viewed as beautiful. Whether you’ve found that your hair is actually starting to fall out or it’s just getting thinner and finer, thankfully there are many things that you can do to combat this issue and restore your locks to their best, most stunning condition. We’ve put together some top tips to help you deal with thinning or shedding hair.
Tip #1. Find the Underlying Cause
Most of the time, your hair won’t begin to fall out or thin for absolutely no reason. If you’re simply unlucky, then it could be a genetic problem – if your parents and grandparents both started losing their hair at a young age, then it’s likely that this could happen to you, too. However, most of the time, thinning hair or hair loss can be caused by other, more manageable reasons, such as health problems, excessive stress, or even over-use of hair products and colorants. If you use a lot of hair products, then you might see good results from cutting down on the amount of sprays, dyes and other chemicals put into your hair. If this doesn’t work, then it may be a good idea to see your doctor who can determine whether it is the symptom of a health problem that can be treated. Tip #2. Avoid Heat and Harsh Products
There’s so many haircare and styling products available on the market today that it can be difficult to know which ones are the best for your hair and which could be harming it. However, one of the main things that most shampoo and haircare brands have in common today is that they are laden with chemicals that can actually be harmful to your hair over time, causing it to thin and fall out. In addition, if you use a lot of heat products, then these can cause significant damage to your locks, leading to split ends, dryness, and even hair loss. Avoid using heat styling as much as possible; if you must, then be sure that you always treat your hair with a good heat protection spray, which will act as a barrier. You can also change your haircare products to natural, chemical-free shampoos and conditioners, which will be much gentler on your hair.
Tip #3. Change Your Diet
Lastly, in order to promote healthy hair growth, it’s important to consider what’s happening on the inside, rather than just the outside. By getting more protein and omega-3 fatty acids in your diet, your hair will have a better supply of nourishment and nutrients to grow thicker and faster. Don’t forget to also fill up on fresh fruit and vegetables, which contain a wide range of vitamins and antioxidants that will help to keep your hair healthy and strong.
