KCRW and Golden Voice Present: Delta Rae @ The Rey
by Sarah Agajanian

Wow. All I can say is wow.

I am not sure if you have heard of Delta Rae yet BUT they have had a wildly popular hit streaming on KCRW called “Bottom of the River.” Anyhow they are a band that originates from North Carolina and they’re heavily influenced by the sweet Fleetwood Mac.

There are 4 vocalists, and three of them are siblings; Ian, Eric and Brittany Holljes are obviously related (considering they all look alike) and are blessed with their friend Elizabeth Hopkins voice to add to the mix. They are joined by their drummer Mike McKee and their bassist Grant Emerson.

Eric is a mean keyboardist, and his touch was so emotionally captivating it instantly gave me goosebumps. Everyone in this band is extremely talented and their harmonies are so well done. The performance was one of the best I have seen and it was very interactive. At one point the whole band came down in the middle of the crowd and sang a cappella, I was so moved. Everyone was dancing and smiling! Just when I thought that was creative enough, they brought up a high school choir to sing back up with them and hit rhythmic beats with drumsticks for “Bottom of the River”. The energy was illuminating and it made for a great show.

To be extremely honest, I am a huge fan of Brittany’s lioness voice. She really stands out and there is something of a firework that happens when she starts to sing. I can project a solo project in the future, just like Stevie Nicks from Fleetwood Mac.

Everyone was superb, and the lyrics brought me home. The band Delta Rae cares about social issues and the goodness we all seek in this crazy world. You can download their Debut Album “Carry the Fire” now on iTunes.

Thank you KCRW, Delta Rae, The El Rey and Golden Voice for bringing my soul good music.
