Too many options…
For the past week I was obsessing over if I should stay with my dinosaur 3g iphone or upgrade to the 4s. Might I add that my 3g was only utilizing half of its speed because I unlocked the phone to use it with T-mobile (sneaky girl). I did that at a time when T-mobile’s unlimited talk, text, and web plan was $79 a month and all the competitors were around $150. Now that all of the competitors have dropped their prices, I decided it was time for a change. Having the 3g unlocked on T-mobile was a great economical idea and it did its justice, but two years of not having picture text messages and feeling like I was browsing on a dial-up network took its toll…and I was done.
It was time to move on. I was getting the new 4s and there were no ifs, ands, or buts.
I had three options – Verizon, Sprint, or AT&T.
I had heard the rumors. AT&T drops all your calls, Verizon has the best service but you Pay $$$$$ for it, and Sprint…Sprint is like vanilla ice cream, you never really hear anything about it. It’s neutral, not too expensive, not horrible coverage, but definitely not the best.
I was a little overwhelmed. But, I had to choose….
I wanted a plan where I could use my phone freely and not worry about overages.
Sprint is $79.00 a month – $69.00 unlimited talk and text plus $10.00 unlimited media. There is a little loophole here. You have unlimited mobile-to-mobile minutes, but you only have 450 landline minutes a month. I can deal with that. Who isn’t on a wireless these days and I’m not going to be talking to my doctor’s office for 450 minutes a month. If you do speak to landlines a lot you can upgrade to unlimited talk, text, and media for $110.
AT&T is $114.99 or $134.99 a month – $89.99 unlimited talk and text plus $25 for 2GB of data or $45 for 4GB. Unfortunately they do not have an unlimited data plan. You do have the option of only getting 200 MB of data for $15 a month, but with the iphone 4s it is not recommended (you will go over).
Verizon is $119.99, $139.99, or $169.99 – $89.99 unlimited talk and text plus $30 for 2GB of data, $50 for 5GB, or $80 for 10GB .Verizon does not have an unlimited data plan either.*Of course if you don’t talk as much as I do, and don’t need unlimited talk and text, there are slightly cheeper options for all three plans.
To me this was a no brainer…I was getting Sprint. More bang for my buck.
Now that I picked my carrier, I had to actually go find the phone.
Bottom line – All three phone companies are back ordered two to three weeks.
For all three companies the phone is the same price with a new service contract. 16 GB – $199, 32 GB – $299, or 64 GB – $399. *Prices vary with upgrades for each company.
To get your phone tomorrow, go online to apple.com at 8:50pm to familiarize yourself with the site to reserve your 4s at 9:00 pm on the dot. The rest of the Pacific Coast will be trying to reserve their iphone for pick up the next day too.
Know exactly how the site works and know what you want – 16 GB, 32 GB, or 64 GB and in either black or white. Know what Apple store you want to pick up your iphone from, and pick a few back-up stores in case that store is out of your GB and color of choice.
Because everyone and their mother is trying to reserve their iphone for next day pick-up, be ready to deal with a busy server…and be patient. You will eventually get through. It took me 25 minutes, but I got my iphone reserved and ready to pick up the next day.
Once you have confirmation that you reserved your iphone, you are free to pick it up the next day between the hours of 10 am – 6 pm. Be sure to get there before 6 pm or your phone will be given away at 6 on the dot.
One last thing – Before you get to the Apple store, decide if you are going to buy the AppleCare Protection Plan – $99 to cover accidental damage in addition to standard fare.
I now have my new iphone 4s on the Sprint network and I am a happy girl. Siri and I have become pretty close buds. If you don’t know who Siri is…look it up and you will definitely want the new iphone. It’s genius!
