2017 Makeup Trends: It’s All About Cool Colors

Spring time is almost here and it brought new makeup trends with it. Celebrities, models and beauty queens from all over the world are slowly packing their matte lipstick collections and rainbow highlighters and welcoming new trends that seem to be all about cool colours. Whether it’s on your lips, eyes or cheeks – bright colours will be the biggest hit of the spring season ahead of us.

Here’s what you should pay attention to.

Go sparkly on your lips

This season, bold lips will keep dominating the fashion scene but now designers and makeup artists took it to another level. Namely, designers such as DKNY, Fendi, and Mary Katrantzou presented the lips heavily covered in glitter on their spring runway shows. While Fendi made it chunky, DKNY gave it somewhat vamp vibe with a dark-coloured base, meaning that everything is fine as long as you keep it shiny.

This look is easy to pull off – all you need is a good base and a few dabs of high-glitter lipstick you can find at Stargazer, NYX, or Ka’oir. Pair these statement lips with a subtle line of eyeliner et voilà – you’ve got yourself a perfect day-to-night makeup.

Make your lashes burgundy

Many women don’t like red shades anywhere near their eyes but this won’t be the case with one of the edgiest trends of this spring – burgundy mascara. The best thing about this trend is that it can create the illusion that you put a lot of effort into your eye makeup when you actually just chose the right shade of mascara. Because it’s so subtle, it’s great for softening your overall look.

To make the most of this burgundy lashes trend, makeup experts suggest going for darker shades such as Chanel’s Rouge Noir mascara. It’s so dark it reveals its true hue only when it catches some light, thus making it perfect or both day and night.

Accentuate your lower lid

Eyeliner, eyeshadow or sparkling glitter – all of these can be worn on both your lower as well as upper lid, and it’s the perfect makeup look for everyone, but especially for those with small eyes. Taiwanese luxury fashion house, Shiatzy Chen, presented this look on their runway shows – their models wore silver glitter under their eyes, while the rest of the makeup was minimal. The outcome was so gorgeous and romantic.

You can do something similar – all you need is a proper tool. Try Jeffree Star Cosmetics highlighting powder to create a illuminating effect on your eyes. To make it even more dramatic, you can add a coat of boldly coloured eyeshadow underneath it and you’ll be ready to hit the dancefloor.

Add a rainbow to your eyes

According to this spring’s makeup trends, pink is going to be the new neutral, but other colours are more than welcome as well, especially on your lids. Shades of purple, orange, blue, and other rainbow hues – they all make a perfect pop of colour effect on your face, so your makeup can double as your jewelry. Louis Vuitton prefers purple, Victoria Beckham blue, while Versus fashion shows were all about forest green.

The best thing about this look is that you don’t need a professional makeup kit to recreate it – you just need one colourful palette, such as Too Faced Sugar Pop or Urban Decay Electric which will allow you to create many different looks.

Now that you know what’s going to be in for the season, you can embrace your favourites and make them work in your everyday makeup arsenal. You are allowed to play with it as long as you keep it colourful – that’s the best way to welcome spring!
